University Professor (m/f/d) Preclinical Pharmacology, Medical Faculty
The Medical Faculty of the University of Augsburg is a young medical faculty that has developed a future-oriented, internationally attractive, and interdisciplinary scientific profile with its two main areas of research, Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) and Medical Information Sciences (MIS), and its links to the clinical profile centers for cardiovascular medicine, tumor medicine, and allergology. In medical education, it pursues a modern, competence-oriented training program within the framework of a model degree program. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Augsburg announces a permanent position of a University Professor (m/f/d) The professorship is assigned to the Institute for Theoretical Medicine together with the other basic subjects of the Faculty of Medicine and is of great strategic importance for the advancement of life sciences in Augsburg. It expands these with an application-oriented, experimental biological focus, which, with its emphasis on pharmacology, represents a translational bridge between molecular mechanisms and clinical application. A close link is to be developed with the Institute for Clinical Pharmacology, which is currently being established with a focus on early clinical trials and first-in-human studies. The collaboration between these two areas will create a dynamic research environment that promotes bidirectional exchange between clinical practice and basic research. At the same time, the professorship will serve as a central interface to the research areas of EHS and MIS. The University of Augsburg is seeking an outstanding and internationally renowned personality with leadership skills who has a proven track record of excellent research achievements in the advertised field and pursues a strong translational approach at the interface between molecular fundamental research and clinical application. Applicants are expected to have an independent scientific profile in the research of pathophysiological processes of various, particularly nutrition-related, clinical conditions and new therapeutic target structures. The focus may be on the identification of innovative minimally invasive diagnostic and predictive biomarkers and on the preclinical characterization of the efficacy and safety of new and innovative active substances using pharmacological and toxicological models ranging from cellular systems to in vivo applications. The findings from preclinical research will be incorporated into the development of personalized prevention, diagnostic, and therapeutic concepts. Conversely, clinical observations, such as unexpected drug effects or therapeutic failure, will be specifically fed back into experimental models and investigated at the molecular level. The research activities of the position holder should also offer opportunities for collaboration with the research areas already established at the Institute of Theoretical Medicine and with the research areas of EHS and MIS. Success in acquiring third-party funding and high-quality publications is required. Due to the position holder's involvement in medical education, a high level of commitment and broad experience in modern competence-based teaching, including the use of blended learning formats, are required and must be reflected in a specific teaching concept. Proof of didactic qualifications is advantageous. Requirements for appointment include a completed university degree in natural sciences or medicine, several years of internationally recognized work as a scientist in the advertised field, experience in academic self-administration, and proven teaching experience demonstrating broad connections to programs in medicine and life sciences. Recognition as a specialist toxicologist or pharmacologist is an advantage. In addition, special aptitude for scientific work, which is usually demonstrated by the quality of a doctorate are expected, as well as additional scientific achievements, which may have been achieved through a habilitation in the advertised subject area, as part of a junior professorship or through equivalent scientific achievements (possibly also outside the university sector). The leadership of a junior research group constitutes an equivalent academic achievement under the conditions specified in Art. 98 section 10 sentence 5 BayHIG. Appointment as a public servant can only take place so long as one is not over 52 years of age. Otherwise, employment is possible within the framework of an employment contract under private law. The University of Augsburg aims to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching and therefore strongly encourages female academics to apply.
