Augsburg City Tour
As usual, we will start the new semester together with a guided tour through Augsburg. This is particularly suitable for researchers who have only recently arrived, but also for anyone else who would like to get to know their fellow researchers over lunch afterwards.
Excursion Kochelsee
Our excursion will take us to Lake Kochel in the "Blue Land". There, we will visit the Franz Marc Museum and gain a deeper understanding of the "Blaue Reiter" ("Blue Rider") artists' group.
Welcome Service Reception
In the past, we regularly organized receptions for international researchers and their hosts. We're now pleased to revive this tradition and are planning a reception once again.
Excursion Ammersee
Our excursion will take us to Lake Ammer, which forms part of the "F¨¹nfseenland" ("Land of Five Lakes"). After a boat tour across the lake, we'll have a decent hike up and reward ourselves with traditional food and drinks at the Andechs Monastery.
Excursion Partnachklam
Our excursion takes us to the Partnach Gorge near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. After our walk through the gorge, we¡¯ll head uphill to treat ourselves to some refreshments whilst enjoying the view of the mountain landscape.

Next Event: Excursion Ammersee
Saturday, June 13, 2026
Andechs Monastery, perched high above the eastern shore of Lake Ammer and renowned for its brewery, stands as Bavaria's oldest pilgrimage church. Embraced by the picturesque surroundings of Lake Ammer, the third-largest lake in Bavaria, it is a cherished destination for recreational activities for locals and tourists alike.
We take a boat trip across the lake and then hike up the Holy Mountain to the monastery. The moderately difficult hike with a slight ascent takes around 1.5 hours and rewards us with a magnificent view of the surrounding landscape. Once at the top, we enjoy lunch in the traditional Bavarian restaurant
Br?ust¨¹berl. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to explore Herrsching's lakeside promenade and the idyllic shores of Lake Ammer.
The Welcome Service will cover the costs of the boat trip. Food and drinks at the restaurant (approx. €20) will be at your own expense.
Plus ones are welcome to join; children cannot join. Places are limited. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and is possible until Thursday, 11 June via the form below.
Events Offered
Every semester, the Welcome Service offers researchers from abroad a varied program of events with excursions and regular get-togethers, which often leave a lasting impression on participants.
In an informal and international atmosphere, our events enable researchers to establish interdisciplinary and cross-faculty contacts that contribute significantly to a successful research stay at the University of Augsburg.
Our offer of events ranges from city trips and museum visits to boat rides and hikes in the countryside. In addition to the most important sights in Bavaria, such as Neuschwanstein Castle or the state capital of Munich, the program also includes ¡®hidden gems¡¯ such as the medieval town of Landsberg am Lech or the Partnach Gorge.
