Bernhard Fleischmann, born in 1942, is professor emeritus at the University of Augsburg, Germany.? He studied mathematics at the universities of Saarbrücken, Paris and Hamburg, where he received his PhD. From 1971 to 1978, he worked with Deutsche Unilever GmbH, Hamburg, in the consulting department for Operations Planning. In 1975, he received the Habilitation for Industrial Management and Operations Research from the University of Karlsruhe. In 1978 he was appointed to the Chair of Operations Research in the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Hamburg. From 1991 until his retirement in 2010 he held the Chair of Production and Logistics at the University of Augsburg.

Prof. Fleischmann's research interests include the supply chain management of manufacturing industries, retailing and logistics service providers, with a focus on the use of quantitative planning methods and software. Research themes are the design of global supply chains, transportation networks, distribution planning, vehicle routing, inventory management and production planning and control.

Prof. Fleischmann is a member of several scientific associations. From 1993 to 1996 he was the President of the German Operations Research Society (GOR). From 2005 to 2007 he was the Vice-President of the University of Augsburg for International Relations, Research and young scientists. From 2001 to 2009 he was a member of the Scientific Council of the German-French University and from 2007 to 2009 as its chairman. From 2010 to 2014 he was a member of the International Scientific Advisory Board of the Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics (DINALOG).

In 2003, Prof. Fleischmann was awarded the GOR Science Award for his complete works. In 2011 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Université de Rennes, France.
