Project Module / Research Module

Project Module / Research Module

Information on the Project Module/Research Module?

A project module (Master's) or a research module (Bachelor's) is linked to one of our current research topics. Alternatively, students can also propose their own topics, provided they are relevant to our areas of research. Both options have already been successfully implemented.?

?

Our modules are:?

? Module INF-0460: Research Module Computational Linguistics (Bachelor's)?

? Module INF-0461: Project Module Computational Linguistics (Master's)?

?

To find out whether the modules can be credited towards your degree program, please consult your module handbook or speak with your program coordinator.?

The project module comprises 10 ECTS credits, corresponding to 300 hours of work. The research module comprises 6 ECTS credits, corresponding to 180 hours of work.?

Regular attendance at our weekly advanced seminar (Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m.) is a required component. For guidance, you can find the program from previous semesters here: https://hlt-augsburg.github.io (see HLT Seminar / Group Meetings). Participation in the "AI Meets Human Data Colloquium" is also recommended. Lecture times will be credited towards the required work hours.?

?

Work Documentation and Assessment?

Students are responsible for documenting their own work hours within the project (e.g., in a simple Excel spreadsheet with the date, time period, and a brief description of the work performed). At the end of the module, a presentation of approximately 30 minutes is required – ideally during the advanced seminar, or possibly in the following semester. Assessment is based on the ongoing project work and the final presentation.?

A term paper is not required. However, depending on the topic, code documentation may be expected, and for suitable projects, there is the opportunity to contribute to a scientific publication. Examples include:?

?

Work Environment and Support?

A student lab with workstations and monitors is available for students in the BCM. A key can be provided upon request, allowing for flexible on-site work. Of course, the project can also be carried out from home.?

Regular supervision meetings take place approximately every one to two weeks – depending on progress and the need for input in the respective project phases.?
