Description:

Biological aerosol particles, including ice-nucleating particles (INPs), have a significant influence on atmospheric processes that are relevant to weather, climate and human health. Their abundance in the atmosphere is strongly influenced by storms and precipitation, especially when raindrops hit the ground and vegetation, lifting biological particles into the air. The RAININ project will combine controlled rainfall simulations with extensive field measurements over agricultural land to quantify and characterise the rain-induced aerosolisation of biological particles. Through these observations, the project aims to improve our understanding of the transport of bioaerosols and INPs from the land surface to the atmosphere.
